If you let your domain’s registration lapse and someone else registers it, do they own it now?
What if you have built a business using that domain and you bought the business (and website, and domain) from another company?
In other words, how do you prove you “own” the domain if you did not renew it and someone else has?

EDIT: maybe another way of asking is, if ESPN owns ESPN.com, and they fail to renew, can a new person grab ESPN.com and then they own the domain?
